Arduino

What is Arduino?

Arduino is a software and hardware device that can be programmed to make or do almost anything. The Arduino Uno is the best Arduino kit for beginners. Separately, you can buy the Arduino book Getting Started With Arduino for faster learning. The book also has simple projects that you can make.

Contents

The Arduino kit has many things that you will need to be using for most of the projects in the book.

These are what is contained in the Arduino kit.Arduino Uno Board

  1. Arduino Uno board
    • This is where the brain of the Arduino is. This is what reads the software.
    • All the connections form here except for wires that can not  be connected to form the circuit.
    • These connections can be connected with another board.
    • Breadboard
  2. Breadboard
    • The breadboard is a board that you can connect the wires if you know how to use it.
    • If you get the Arduino Uno kit, it will tell you how to use the breadboard.
  3. USB cable
    • With this you can connect the Arduino board to the computer you are going to use to program it.Jumper Wire
  4. 9v battery case
  5. Jumper wire
    • With this you can make connections on the breadboard without soldering(using heat to combine wires)
    • You will also need these to connect sensors and motors to the Arduino board.BUTTON
  6. Push-button

    • This is a type of switch that to complete the circuit you need to press the button.
    • This can be connected to the breadboard
    • A push-button is very useful and is used in many projectsLEDTRI
  7. LED, tricolor
    • This can be connected to the breadboard
    • This LED combines three colors(green, blue, and red) to make a mixture of all three colors.LED
    • It will be used in more complex projects and will not be introduced at the beginning of the book
  8. LED(2 green, 2 red, and 2 blue
    • An LED uses very little electricity to make light
    • This can be connected to the breadboardPhotoresistors
  9. Photoresistors (2)
    • These are special types of resistors that decrease resistance and the light increases in intensity
    • These will be used in more complex projects and will not be introduced at the beginning of the book
  10. Resistors(220Ʊ, 10Ʊ, 270Ʊ)
    • these reduse electricity in the circuit
    • the color of the stripes around the resistor tell how much power it reduces.

How to start working on Arduino

  1. First, you will need to download the Arduino 1.0.5 software on www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
  2. After you download the software, you can buy the Getting Stared With Arduino Kit on Amazon.
  3. Once you have both the software and the kit, plug the USB cable into the computer and connect it to the arduino board
  4. A light next to “L” on the board should start blinking
  5. Look in the book for projects that you can try to program for beginners.
