Fluorite

What is Fluorite?

Fluorite is a common and extremely colorful mineral that has a chemical formula of CaF2. It belongs to the category of halide minerals, which means it consists of halide ions. It has an octahedral crystal shape. Fluorite can also be seen in ultra-violet light.

How it is Used

Fluorite is used for smelting (removing minerals from their ores). Ores are the rock that minerals can be found in. Fluorite is also used in the production of glasses and enamels. It is also used to make lenses in microscopes and telescopes.
