Layers of the Earth

What is the Earth made of ?

The Earth is made up of different layers that all are supported by a solid ball in the middle of it.

The Different Layers of the Earth

The outermost layer of the Earth is the crust, which is the solid area that we live on.

Under the crust is the mantle. This layer is made up of a plastic-like solid. At the top part of the mantle, the magma is solid. As it gets deeper into the Earth, it becomes liquid.

Next is the outer core. The outer core is made up of a combination of iron and nickel in a liquid form.

The inner core is the ball made of different metals that supports all the other layers. The inner core is made of an alloy of Nickel and Iron. This alloy is called NiFe.

The Earth gets hotter as it gets deeper. This is because it takes a long time for the heat to travel towards the crust. The Inner Core is believed to be hotter than the sun. Scientists have found that it is 6000 degrees Celsius.
