Metals, Metalloids, and Nonmetals

Properties of Metals

All metals have similar properties. They shine when polished, and they conduct heat.

Other properties of Metals

  • Malleability- the ability to be bent or flattened without breaking
  • Ductility- the ability to be shaped into wires without breaking

What are nonmetals?

Nonmetals are substances with opposite properties than metals.

Metalloids

Metalloids have properties in between metals and nonmetals.

How nonmetals and metalloids are used

Nonmetals are used in many different ways. One example is that nonmetals insulate wires to keep you from getting shocked.

Metalloids like Silicon are used in computer chips.
